Floor Care Instructions

What to do after install:

After a polyaspartic coating is applied to a garage floor, it's important to allow it to cure properly before walking or driving on it. Here are the general guidelines for staying off a polyaspartic-coated floor:

Foot Traffic

  • Light foot traffic: Wait at least 24 hours before walking on the floor. This is typically enough time for the polyaspartic coating to harden sufficiently for light use.

Vehicle Traffic

  • Driving or parking vehicles: Wait at least 72 hours before driving or parking on the surface. This gives the coating enough time to cure and reach a point where it can handle the weight of a vehicle.

Heavy Items or Equipment

  • For moving in heavy equipment or placing heavy items, it's best to wait 72 to 96 hours to ensure the coating has fully cured and can handle heavier loads without damage.

While polyaspartic coatings cure faster than traditional epoxy, allowing proper curing time will ensure the coating performs optimally and maintains its durability.

Extended care for your floors

Every Day Maintenance

Every Day Maintenance

Sweep or Vacuum Regularly:

  • Use a soft-bristle broom or a microfiber dust mop to remove dust, dirt, and debris that can scratch the surface over time.
  • A vacuum with a soft floor attachment can also be used to pick up loose particles, especially in hard-to-reach areas.

Spot Clean Spills Immediately:

  • Polyaspartic floors are resistant to most chemicals, but it's best to wipe up spills like oil, grease, gasoline, or other automotive fluids as soon as possible to prevent any potential staining or slipperiness.
  • Use a cloth or paper towels for spills and follow up with warm water and a mild detergent.

Sweep and Mop the Floor:

  • Use a damp mop with warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner or a mild detergent (like dish soap) to remove dirt and grime from the surface.
  • Avoid using vinegar, bleach, or other harsh chemicals, as these can degrade the shine and performance of the polyaspartic coating.

Avoid Using Harsh or Abrasive Cleaners:

  • Do not use abrasive powders, scouring pads, or harsh chemical cleaners as they can scratch or dull the polyaspartic surface..

DEEP CLEANING

Every Day Maintenance

Protecting your floor

Deep Clean Periodically:

  • Periodically, you can give the floor a more thorough cleaning by using a mop and a stronger (yet still mild) cleaner designed for sealed surfaces. You can use an auto scrubber or a power washer on a low setting to remove any tough stains or grime buildup.
  • Always dry the floor thoroughly after deep cleaning to avoid standing water, which could eventually damage the coating.

Reapply a Top Coating

  • Over time, the topcoat may wear down, especially in extreme enviornments or extremely high-traffic areas. Consider reapplying a protective topcoat every 10 years to maintain the floor's gloss and durability.

Use Protective Mats:

  • Place mats under vehicles, especially in areas where tires rest or where heavy tools or equipment are stored. This helps to reduce tire marks and protect the floor from potential damage.
  • Rubber-backed mats or carpet strips can be placed near workstations or high-traffic areas to catch any drips or spills.

Avoid Dropping Heavy Objects:

  • Polyaspartic coatings are highly durable, but like any surface, they can be damaged by dropping heavy objects or dragging sharp tools across them. Use care when moving heavy equipment in the garage.

Use Felt Pads Under Heavy Objects:

  • Place felt pads or rubber protectors under the legs of heavy furniture or machinery to prevent them from scratching the floor.

Tire Marks and spills

Tire Marks and Scuffs

  • If tire marks appear, use a soft scrub brush with a gentle degreaser or citrus-based cleaner. Scrub lightly, then rinse with water. Always avoid using overly harsh chemicals.

Solvents or Chemical Spills:

  • For spills involving chemicals like gasoline, antifreeze, or solvents, clean them immediately with paper towels or a soft cloth. After removing the spill, wash the area with water and a mild cleaner to remove any residue.

Environmental Factors

UV Protection:

  • Polyaspartic coatings are UV-resistant and will not yellow or fade, but prolonged exposure to intense sunlight may still cause minor changes over time. If possible, use window coverings or UV-protective film on windows to limit UV exposure.

Temperature Extremes:

  • Polyaspartic floors can handle extreme temperatures, but avoid exposing the floor to extreme temperature swings, which could affect its flexibility and performance. Ensure your garage has proper ventilation and insulation.
